Generally if an athlete's nutrition and macro-nutrient
ratios are correct, and you are getting enough carbs and
electrolytes through your diet, water should be sufficient
in supplying your hydration needs, even when working out
hard or competing.
But, there are exceptions: one being the fact that most
athletes do not have the time or resources to conduct and
implement a perfectly regimented nutritional plan, and
almost always lack the knowledge of designing an effective
carbo-loading performance diet plan.
Enter Gatorade(tm) and other top sports performance
drinks. Probably the most renowned sports drink available,
Gatorade(tm) supplies athletes with not only hydration, but
energy rich carbohydrates, sodium, and loads of
electrolytes to help fuel the best athletes through the
toughest games.
It has been proven time and again that water alone isn't
enough if your sports diet isn't meticulously designed and
adhered to.
So, for the less than professional athlete who doesn't
have their own nutritionist, sports drinks can truly help
give you that extra step when the games on the line.
Beware, though: some of the sports drinks contain too
much sugar and sodium, so balance is very important!
We recommend that for every bottle of sports drink
consumed, match that with one bottle of water, ounce for
ounce. And remember, regardless of the other terrific
qualities of Gatorade(tm) and other quality sports drinks,
H2O is still an Athlete's best friend!
