Best Bottled Water, Does It Exist?

Not long ago most of us would have never even thought of buying water. Today however, things have dramatically changed. Water is being sold by the truckload and has become a mega multi billion dollar industry. Reports are stating that it has grown to upwards of 100 billion dollars worldwide per year.

So since everyone is buying bottled water it must be healthier and safer right? The people marketing this product would definitely like you to believe this. However studies show that bottled water may not be any cleaner than tap water. Regulations are usually not as strict when it comes to purity, contaminants and filtering. So there is no guarantee that bottled water is any better. Another concern is with how long the water is in the bottles. The water can become stale. It may also have more bacteria in it than regular tap water.

Another problem with bottled water is the huge amount garbage it leaves behind. It requires over 40 million gallons of oil to make the plastic and we get 1.5 million tons of waste from it each year. The plastic could be recycled but only 20% of them make it to the recyclers. The other 80% is just tossed out and a lot of it ends up in our oceans causing risk to the living creatures that reside there.

With more and more people using bottled water our public water systems might not be getting the proper attention. Taste and safety concerns push people to buy water and this makes them less likely to care as much about their local water system. But not everyone can afford bottled water so people with less money suffer. Every year water systems lose millions of gallons of good drinking water due to leaking pipes which could be avoided.

The last point I want to make about bottled water is in the price. This is just crazy. Water now costs more than gasoline and is way cheaper to produce. The worst part about this is that we need water to survive. To me that just isn't right. We are being manipulated and straight out ripped off. My suggestion is its time to buy a water purifier.
